AS Biology myocardial infarction due to high levels of cholesterol?
High levels of cholesterol over a long period of time highly increase the chances of having a heart attack. This is primarily due the fat and cholesterol is deposited in the arteries, firstly fatty streaks occur then this build up to the point where the artery becomes narrower. Atherosclerosis can occur where a plaque forms over the cholesterol and fat....white blood cells from the immune system try to digest this fat but become partially oxidized and add to the problem. Eventually this plaque erupts and thrombosis occurs where the blockage travels to the heart and prevents blood flow...hence the heart attack. The patient usually has what is called the golden hour to be treated where they are helped by using an enzyme unblocker which breaks down the blockage and unclogs the whole thing.
